Additional conferences AND PROGRAMS

There are many educational opportunities to expand your knowledge about psychosocial care for cancer patients and their families. Some resources are other conferences held around the country and others are distance learning courses available on the internet. AOSW is delighted to list conferences and programs presented by other organizations which are relevant to our mission and members. If you'd like a conference listed, please email info@aosw.org. AOSW reserves the right to decide the final postings to this page.

Board of Oncology Social Work CertificationThe mission of the Board of Oncology Social Work Certification is to promote excellence in psychosocial care for oncology patients, families, caregivers, and their community through the process of Oncology Social Work Certification. Oncology Social Work Certification is important for patients, their families, and oncology staff as it reflects a knowledge base, skill set, and ethical standards specific to psychosocial oncology. It represents an advanced level of competence, commitment, and experience in the field of Oncology Social Work. Certification also demonstrates to accrediting organizations i.e. Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to employers, and the community that Oncology Social Workers comply with standards and ethics that ensure delivery of quality services to all.

Although two separate organizations, both the BOSWC and AOSW seek to promote excellence and proficiency in oncology social work. We encourage all oncology social work professionals to seek certification through this board.

The Children's Treehouse Foundation

September 18-20, 2008

The Children's Treehouse Foundation presents a special training workshop for professionals interested in launching a psychosocial intervention, group-support program at their cancer center, for the children whose parents have cancer. Click on the graphic above for additional information.

The Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers

October 16-20, 2008
Have you ever had a massage in the morning and learned about new support groups in the afternoon? Discussed treating claustrophobia and then had a cool drink at a beachside restaurant in Mexico? Listened to a presentation on the resilience and creativity of oncology social workers…and then learned how to enjoy a sunset from the middle of the ocean?

The Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year…and we are going to do it in style! This year’s conference is designed to give oncology clinicians a place to learn, network and rejuvenate, all while aboard a beautiful cruise liner headed to Key West and Cozumel. The unique nature of this conference will allow you to enjoy a fabulous lunch buffet or a stroll on the beach, as well as obtain 12 CEU's provided by leaders in the field of psychosocial oncology.
