CANCER-SPECIFIC ORGANIZATIONS

Brain

American Brain Tumor Association

Exists to eliminate brain tumors through research and to meet the needs of brain tumor patients and their families. Provides educational materials and the opportunity to speak with social workers.

Brain Tumor Society

Strives to improve the quality of life of brain tumor patients and their families. Distributes information about brain tumors, and provides support to patients and their families. Also raises money to support research on brain tumors.

National Brain Tumor Foundation

Provides information, counseling and patient support services to brain tumor patients and their families. Also provides a newsletter, a patient-to-patient telephone support line, a free resource guide, a list of support groups, and training for caregivers.

Breast Cancer

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

Through a network of affiliates and fundraising events, fights to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. In addition to funding research grants, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs, the foundation supports education, screening and treatment projects.

Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization

Mission is to ensure that through information, empowerment and peer support, no one faces breast cancer alone. A 24-hour hotline is staffed by trained breast cancer survivors. Affiliates throughout the nation provide support groups, early detection workshops, wigs and prostheses for women with limited resources, and advocacy for breast cancer related policies.

Colorectal Cancer

Colon Cancer Alliance

Organization of colon and rectal cancer survivors, caregivers, people with a genetic predisposition to the disease and other individuals touched by colorectal cancer. Services include information, a quarterly newsletter, support program and advocacy.

Colorectal Cancer Coalition
National nonprofit organization that strives to reduce suffering and death due to colorectal cancer. Promotes research for better screening, diagnosis and treatments, encourages policy through grassroots campaigns, and raises awareness.

Gynecologic Cancers

National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Inc.

Raises awareness about ovarian cancer and promotes education about the disease. Committed to improving the survival rate and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.

Gynecologic Cancer Foundation

Mission is to ensure public awareness of gynecologic cancer prevention, early diagnosis and proper treatment as well as to support research and training related to gynecologic cancers. Provides education about gynecologic cancers and the central role of gynecologic oncologists in these activities.

Provides information and emotional support from the survivor's perspective to women with gynecologic cancers, their families and friends, and health care providers.

Head and Neck Cancer

Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer

Provides current information for oral and head and neck cancer patients who are trying to gain a better understanding of their illness. Services include one-to-one support, patient information packets, awareness ribbons and pins, a cookbook and newsletter.

Kidney Cancer

Kidney Cancer Association

Funds, promotes and collaborates on kidney cancer research projects, educates physicians and patients about kidney cancer, and advocates at the federal and state level on behalf of patient interests.

Leukemia

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Financial assistance for specific approved drugs related to the treatment/control of leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. Processing, typing, screening and cross-matching of blood components for transfusions; infusion of marrow, cord blood or stem cell, transportation to and from a doctor’s office, hospital, treatment center or Family Support Group, initial induction x-ray therapy, x-ray therapy or other procedures according to the specific approval of the national Patient Services Committee. Reimbursement requests, up to a maximum of $500 per year, are processed through local chapters.

Lung Cancer

Advocates on behalf of lung cancer patients, survivors, families, caregivers and those at risk. Programs include the Lung Cancer Hotline, a toll-free information and referral service for people with lung cancer and their caregivers, a peer-to-peer support network, and newsletter.

Lymphoma

Lymphoma Research Foundation

Healthcare Provider Grant Program
LRF offers a limited financial assistance program to help uninsured and underinsured with unpaid medical bills.
Applicants must:
 1. Complete an application and demonstrate a financial need.
 2. Be a first time applicant to this program.
 3. Be currently undergoing lymphoma treatment as certified by their physician.

Uninsured or underinsured applicants should indicate on their application and discuss with the Coordinator if they have accumulated medical debt. Funds are available to reimburse healthcare providers for patients' hospital or physician bills that insurance will not reimburse. Amount is determined on a case by case basis and is usually a percentage of overall debt. Decisions are also affected by LRF's current level of funding for this grant program.

LRF's program does not cover co-pays for drugs, everyday living expenses, such as food, rent, or utility bills or treatment related costs, such as transportation, childcare or cosmetic aides. Go to financial assistance resources for additional assistance.

A private funder of myeloma-specific research. The website also offers comprehensive and in-depth information on myeloma, its treatments, clinical trials, advocacy, medical programs and research grants.

Pancreatic Cancer

Dedicated to focusing national attention on the need to find a cure for pancreatic cancer through more research, effective treatments, prevention programs and early detection methods.

Prostate Cancer
