aosw Scholarship Opportunities

AOSW is pleased to announce three different types of scholarships available to AOSW members. Each of these scholarships allows an opportunity for an individual to attend one of AOSW's finest programs, the annual conference. Applying is easy. Below each scholarship description is a link to the application. Please complete the online form and email the supporting information requested, i.e. resume and letters of support on institutional letterhead.

All materials must be completed and e-mailed to mmetz1@hfhs.org by January 25, 2008.

Regional Conference Scholarships These scholarships are sponsored by both the American Brain Tumor Association and AOSW. One conference tuition scholarship is available for AOSW members from each Region. Awardees are chosen based on demonstration of commitment to the field of oncology social work, as evidenced in the application and one letter of support. Submissions are now closed.

Naomi Stearns Scholarship This scholarship established to honor the first AOSW President, Naomi Stearns, is a $1,000 scholarship to defray the cost of conference attendance for a member who has demonstrated commitment to the profession, including AOSW activity, as evidenced in the application and letters of support. The scholarship is supported by donations to the Naomi Stearns Scholarship Fund. Submissions are now closed.

Palliative Care and End-of-Life Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Betty Vargo, a longstanding AOSW member and leader in palliative and end-of-life care who had a commitment to education in social work on end-of life issues. It was established in 2006 to support an AOSW member who is seeking a Master's degree in Social Work. The recipient will have a demonstrated interest in end-of-life care or stated interest otherwise evidenced in the award application, and verifiable via letter of recommendation from a social work professor or field supervisor. This scholarship includes conference registration and up to $600 toward travel and lodging; total scholarship not to exceed $1,000. Submissions are now closed.
